Zoom Account

All Exeter employees and students are issued a basic Zoom license.  This allows for 40-minute Zoom meetings.

To utilize your Exeter Zoom account, you must register.  Follow the instructions below on how to sign in to your Exeter Zoom account.

  1. Go to https://exeter.zoom.us
  2. Click Sign In
  3. If prompted for an email address, click Sign in with SSO (Single Sign On)
  4. Enter Exeter in the company domain
  5. Enter your Exeter email address and password
  6. You will receive a confirm activation email to complete the registration if you hadn’t done so already.

Download the Zoom Client for the best user experience.  Here is a quick video on registering and downloading the Zoom client for a Mac.

 

Troubleshooting Zoom Connectivity Issues:

For the best user experience:

  • Shut down your computer at least every couple of days.  Closing the lid does not constitute shutting down.  Check out how to shut down from a Mac or PC.
  • Make sure you are logged into Exeter.Zoom.us and you are using the downloaded Zoom client.   
  • Go to exeter.zoom.us and click Sign in with SSO; enter your Exeter Email address and password.  If prompted for company domain, enter exeter.

Steps you can take to optimize your default Zoom settings:

Make sure the Zoom client is up to date.

  • Launch the Zoom client.
  • Click on your profile initials in the upper right corner.
  • Click on Check for Updates.
  • Run any updates that are available.

Change your default settings to reduce bandwidth utilization in the Zoom Client app. 

  • Launch the Zoom client. 
  • Click your profile initials or picture in the top right corner then click Settings. 
  • Turn off HD video and disable your video, if it is enabled. 
  • Click Video on the left panel. 
  • Uncheck ‘Enable HD’ 
  • Check ‘Turn off my video when joining meeting’ 
  • Click Audio on the left panel.
  • Check ‘Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting’ (unless you’re using your cell phone to call in)
  • Check ‘Mute my microphone when joining a meeting’.

Steps you can take to optimize Zoom before you join a meeting:

  • Reboot your laptop or close any windows/tabs that you’re not actively using.
  • Make sure all computer updates have been run.  
  • Make sure Zoom is up to date.  In the Zoom client, click on your profile initials or picture in the upper right, click Check for updates.  

Steps you can take to optimize Zoom during a meeting:

  • If it’s on, click ‘Stop Video,’ restarting only when required. 
  • Use Speaker Mode; Do not use Gallery Mode.
  • Mute yourself when possible.
