The Exeter Summer program is one of academic enrichment, based on Harkness learning and collaboration without the stress of making the grade. The focus is on learning through preparation, careful listening, and well-considered discussion contributions. Courses are taught by experienced faculty using Harkness, a philosophy based on student-led group discussion.  This way students develop the ability to direct conversations and their own learning.

Like the Academy’s regular session, Exeter’s summer program — more than a century old — brims with opportunity. Over 600 students in grades 7 through 12 attend our summer program. Each summer, our student body represents more than 40 countries and over 30 U.S. states. All attendees are curious, motivated learners seeking new challenges and designing their own courses of study, sport and recreation.

Summer students enjoy full access to our beautiful campus and state-of-the-art facilities. The 673-acre campus Academy is surrounded by fields, forests and a quaint New England town just 10 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and one hour north of Boston.

Afternoons are devoted to a wide range of sports and our extensive performing arts program. Rounding out the fun are activities such as movies and games on the quads, dorm activities and excursions off campus.
