Golf - V

Big Red golf has enjoyed an abundance of individual and team success over the years and positioned themselves as one of the best programs in New England. The team practices at Breakfast Hill Country Club and can keep their swings in shape during the winter by using the golf simulator in the practice room on campus. Big Red regularly sends student-athletes to play at the collegiate level, including programs in the Pac-12, ACC, Patriot League and Ivy League.

The Big Red Golf Team kept the ball rolling today in their home opener at Breakfast Hill against the Huskies of New Hampton. The Big Red prevailed in a 7.5 – 2.5 victory. Leading the team with a score of 36 was Angelina Gong and Michael Nardone. Followed by Lucy Jung, Ananya Ray and Morgan Smith. The Big Red will play Tilton on Wednesday at Breakfast Hill in another interstate match.

The Big Red golf team continued its strong play Saturday against Tabor and Loomis at Breakfast Hill. Leading the way for Exeter was Morgan Smith who shot 1-over 73. Angelina Gong came in with a 77, Grady Larson 78, Paco Sze 80, Jack Fallon and Michael Nardone at 82. The conditions were cold and windy, making it a challenging day on the course, the team dug in and played well shooting 390 against Tabor and Loomis, who each ended up at 423. The team’s next match will be at the fabled Newport CC in Newport RI in the Andover Invitational this coming Saturday at noon.

The Big Red Girls Golf team played their first match of the season at Breakfast Hill against the Winsor School on Thursday. Ananya Ray, Sofia Lala, Tiffany Sun and Leela Gandhi represented Phillips Exeter. Leela and Tiffany each won their matches and Ananya halved her match in a hard fought round. This was a tune up for the Pippy O’Connor Tournament coming up in May where 80 of the best girls from the region will be competing.

Big Red golf captured first place at the annual Andover Invitational at the Newport Country Club. Leading the way was Morgan Smith who came in with a 71. Angelina Gong shot a 74 while Pace Sze followed at 75. Grady Larson and Michael Nardone rounded out Big Red's efforts with an 80 and 83, respectively.

Big Red girls golf captured first place at the annual Pippy O’Connor Tournament for the first time in program history. Morgan Smith earned first place overall with a score of 74 while Angelina Gong followed with a 78. Ananya Ray finished with an 81 while Lucy Jung came in at 96. The total combined score of 329 finished three shots better than The Taft School. Morgan Smith, Angelina Gong, and Ananya Ray each earned All-NEPSAC honors with their performance.

The Exeter Girls travelled to Newton Country Day School on Friday. 4 girls represented the Big Red in the 4-0 Victory in close matches. Leading the way was Angelina Gong who finished with a 35 and earned Medalist honors. Ananya Ray and Sophia Lala both shot 44 in their wins. And Joey Dong won her match with a 49.

Big Red competed in the second round of the three round competition with Andover and Governor’s. Exeter was leading in the stroke play completion after round one at Governor’s. Saturday’s completion was an 18-hole stroke play event as well as match play event between Exeter and Andover. Andover shot 379, Exeter finished at 390, and Governor’s came in at 434. In the accumulative stroke play, Exeter leads by 1 stroke with 584, lays at Andover 585, and Governor’s 666. The last match will take place this Wednesday with all the hardware on the line. In Match Play Exeter and Andover are tied at 3.5 points each.
