Baseball - JV

Consistently in contention in the CNEPSBL, Big Red baseball has proven to be one of the premier programs in the region. The team plays against top competition from around New England and often sends student-athletes on to successful collegiate programs at the Division I and Division III levels. Big Red practices and plays on the Amos Alonzo Stagg baseball diamond, which is a top-tier grass facility on the Exeter campus. Each year, Big Red sends players to continue their playing careers at top NCAA programs throughout the country.

Big Red shook off a rough start and 6 run deficit, getting the bats booming with a 12-run third inning. Nate Edin’s grand slam and a three-hit game by Austin Szarnicki highlighted Exeter’s offense up and down the lineup. The squad looks to continue it’s improved play vs. St. Thomas Aquinas this Saturday morning.

Shortstop Jake Lulek led a fine hitting attack with four solid hits, as Exeter’s bats were strong up and down the lineup. Tomasso Cucci was solid behind the plate and Exeter pitchers Thad McConnell, Jack Doherty and Josh Rohloff held St. Thomas’s bats in check in Big Red’s satisfying win on Saturday morning.

Big Red played errorless defense, highlighted by a game-saving pick by first baseman Casper Bailey to end the game with the tying run on base. Lefty Jack Doherty pitched a brilliant complete game, holding Blue Hawk bats in check. Jake Lulek scored the decisive run with some heads-up baserunning.

Josh Rohloff pitched five strong innings and Thad McConnell closed the game on the mound. Rohloff also collected three solid base hits at the dish. Jake Lulek's long double in the top of the 7th helped break open a close game.

Big Red hurler Josh Rohloff pitched a complete game and finished strong when the chips were down, aided by a clutch catch by Jake Creelan in deep right field the bottom of the seventh, as Exeter held off a late Andover rally in a contest that was close all the way. First baseman Jack Doherty’s booming double to right in the third inning highlighted the offense against Big Blue’s very good pitching.

Paced by a complete game gem pitched by lefty Jack Doherty, Big Red made history by completing a season sweep of Andover’s strong JV program. Doherty gave up no earned runs and kept Big Blue’s batters off balance throughout. Two hits by Josh Rohloff, including a clutch two-out RBI double in the fifth inning, highlighted Exeter’s offense. Senior Ashton Szarnicki had a solid hit and a solid game in left field in his last game for Exeter.
