Forces in Motion: Gordon D. Chase ’66
October 22 – December 18, 2021

Artist and educator Gordon D. Chase ’66 asks big questions in dynamic ways. Whether through intensely colorful gestural paintings or powerful black-and-white drawings; piercingly angular sculpture or circular ‘witness wheels,’ Chase creates art with a social conscience to test our assumptions about how we affect — and are affected by — the world we share.

Politics and social justice — whose politics, and what actions signify justice — are at the heart of his artful quest. From exploring the mythic, to critiquing the military, and through observing the frequent intensity of simply being human, Chase illuminates how our passions determine our behaviors and the consequences they create.

I like to explore human motives and behavior at many different scales, from personal to global.
