#iamExeter: Angelina ’27
What it’s like to be an Exeter student, from Exeter students.
Who better to talk about life at the Academy than the experts!? In a series of interviews with students, we asked questions prospective families might have as their student considers applying.
What is your name, year, and affiliated dorm?
My name is Angelina Emma Wang, a Class of 2027 senior in Hoyt Hall!
What clubs are you a part of currently?
I’m currently a Co-General Manager of WPEA, the school radio club; a Co-Head of the AI club; and an occasional member of the Chinese Student Organization and PEAnimation.
What made you decide to get into club life at Exeter? What drew you in?
I originally joined a plethora of clubs that “looked interesting” after the club fair, though I ended up really enjoying radio broadcasting. Clubs are almost like an extension of your Exeter experience, and you’ll learn or tinker with things that you wouldn’t have tried out in class. In the end, though, every club has a unique community that draws you to stay.
How did you find the right club for you?
You try them out! I’ve had clubs that I’ve joined and quit later on, as well as clubs I’ve joined that I didn’t even end up attending. The beauty of Exeter is experimentation, so no matter what, you’ll eventually find a space meant for you. (The nice part is, if you can’t find a club you like, you can just make one!)
Do you have any advice for incoming students that have an interest in joining a club at Exeter?
Don’t worry about being a beginner. Whether or not you have experience in a subject, just join the club and see how it goes! A lot of students (and club heads) find their passions here at Exeter, and if you start from scratch, it’s a good underdog story, you know?
