Who better to talk about life at the Academy than the experts!? In a series of interviews with students, we asked questions prospective families might have as their student considers applying. Next up is Quinn Nash-Webber ’29. Passionate about rock climbing, Quinn shares with us her experience of what it’s like to be a Co-Head of the Rock Climbing Club.

What is your name, year, and affiliated dorm?

My Name is Quinn Nash-Webber, class of 2029 (2-year Lower), and I live in Dunbar Hall.

What does the Rock Climbing Club do? What makes this club unique?

Aside from being the best club on campus (objectively), the Rock Climbing Club provides a space for climbers and non-climbers alike to get together, listen to some music, climb, cheer each other on, get stronger, work hard, compete, go outside, make new friends, learn new things and overall have a blast.

Climbing Club is unique as it is ever-shifting, and it is an up-and-coming sport that engages its participants in so many different disciplines, whether it be mental, physical, or emotional. Climbing Club has the opportunity to introduce and help people continue with a sport that develops people in many different aspects of life. It’s one of my favorite things on earth, and I can’t recommend it more!

Why did you decide to become a Club Head?

I became a Co-Head of the Climbing Club to help share my passion for climbing and give back to a community that has given so much to me. I have been climbing since I was six years old, and it has consumed my life in an amazingly positive way ever since. Being a Co-Head of the Climbing Club is providing me with an opportunity to spread the love of a sport that has shaped me into the person I am today.

Can you tell us what a Club Head does? What does your role look like?

As a Club Head, I am the person in charge, along with my other amazing Co-Heads (shout-out to Thea, AB, and Simone) of organizing events and outings, running meetings, staying in contact with our club advisors, and recruiting more members to our club.

My role on a day-to-day basis is quite simple aside from some logistics I essentially just get to do more of something I love with other passionate people!

What would you say is the biggest skill you’ve learned since becoming a Club Head?

The biggest skill I have developed as a Co-Head is communication. I am someone with a lot of big goals for this club, and I have found that if you communicate, advocate, and overall speak up for yourself, you can make some amazing things happen!
