This course examines in depth the behavior of macroeconomic aggregates such as GDP and its components, inflation, unemployment, and interest rates. We study the determinants of long-run economic growth as well as the causes of the business cycle (recessions and booms). We discuss the pros and cons of fiscal and monetary policies and also address government budget deficits, the role of the banking system, trade and capital flows across countries, and exchange rate determination. Open to seniors.
