Let’s get started
Please carefully review the following information, which will guide you through the course planning and course request process for each grade level.
Please be in touch if you have questions:
Laura Marshall, Dean of Academic Affairs
Sarah Herrick, Registrar
New Student Questionnaire
All new students are required to complete the New Student Questionnaire, which should be done as soon as possible. To answer the questions, you will need information about your previous coursework in language, math, and science, including final grades received.
Placement Tests
Students will receive placement tests in math and language in April with clear instructions for completing and submitting each test. Placement tests should be completed within one week.
- Language placement tests are completed online, in Canvas; an email invitation from “PEA Canvas” will be sent to your Exeter email address.
- Math placement tests are completed by hand (paper and pencil); an email with instructions for completing and submitting the test will be sent to your Exeter email address.
After your placement test is graded, the Registrar’s Office will automatically register you for the appropriate math and language courses. (If you are studying a language for the first time, you will not receive a placement test and you will be registered for the introductory course sequence).
Courses of Instruction
Student and parents/guardians are encouraged to review the Courses of Instruction for detailed information about diploma requirements, curricular offerings, and course prerequisites.
Course Planning By Grade
Students should submit course requests by Monday, May 11.
Grade 9 Course Planning Guide »
Each summer, all incoming 9th graders are asked to read a common text to help develop a strong sense of community. Click here for more information or reach out to Brandon Thomas, 9th Grade Program Coordinator, if you have additional questions.

After enrolling, one-year seniors and post-graduates will be contacted by a college counselor or the dean of academic affairs to discuss course selections.
Submitting Final Transcripts
To finalize your enrollment at Exeter, please log into your Exeter Applicant Portal and complete the online form located in the “Authorization to Release Final Transcripts” section by July 11.
Disability Accommodations
Students who receive academic accommodations due to a diagnosed disability and are requesting accommodations at Exeter must contact Jonathan Nydick, learning specialist, and send all supporting documentation to jnydick@exeter.edu by May 1. For more information about the Academy’s disability accommodations policy and disability support services, including how to apply for standardized testing accommodations, please refer to the E Book.
To ensure your learning plan is active when school starts, we recommend completing the intake process immediately after enrolling at the Academy, or not later than May 15. Requests started after June 1 may not be finalized by the beginning of the fall term.
School accommodations do not guarantee approval for the SAT (College Board) or ACT. If you are already approved to have accommodations by the College Board or ACT, you must transfer accommodations for standardized testing (e.g., SAT, ACT, or Advanced Placement Exams), using the New Student Testing Accommodation Request. Be sure to upload your confirmation letter, which includes your SSD or TAA ID number. All files are handled under strict FERPA confidentiality guidelines.
If you have questions about this process please contact Meredith Gadd, standardized testing coordinator at mgadd@exeter.edu.
To ensure your accommodations are in place for fall testing, please complete this process by July 1. Last-minute transfer requests may result in delays or accommodations not being available for early test dates.
