The rigor of an Exeter education is well-known, but the support you’ll find across the Academy community is just as established.
You’ll find yourself learning around a Harkness table, with a small group of classmates. Your teacher will guide you — both as a group of learners, and as an individual. And while every student at Exeter has the opportunity to cut their own academic path, no one does it alone. From day one, you’ll work closely with your adviser. You’ll meet regularly — at least weekly, but often more frequently — to discuss everything from coursework to social life and personal concerns.
Faculty members live in dorms and houses on campus or nearby, making it easy to check in with advisers and instructors as often as you want. Advisers also connect with parents, providing a comforting link between family and school.
The Learning Center is open five nights a week to offer help with assignments, and our Learning Specialist is continually monitoring the Academy’s support network.

The mission of the Center for Teaching & Learning is to learn how we can learn most effectively, to learn how we can teach most effectively and to share our practice and expertise with educators interested in our ever-evolving Harkness model.
The Learning Center
A Harkness education cultivates a growth mindset and a desire to learn from one’s peers and adults. The Learning Center is a natural extension of this work. It offers a space for students to deepen their understanding through academic support and skill development, allowing them to reach their fullest potential. The Learning Center is open Sunday-Thursday evenings in the library.
College Counseling
Just as teachers at the Harkness table create a student-centered learning environment, the counselors and staff of the College Counseling Office foster active and open-minded collaboration with students and parents.
