Schedule an Interview

We want to get to know you: what you’re passionate about, your favorite activity, the last book you read, anything that helps us understand what you love to do. That’s why we require an interview for all applicants. It’s a two-way conversation, so bring your own questions. We want you to get to know us, too.

Each applicant is eligible for one interview appointment only. You can choose how we’ll meet you including:

• In-person on our campus
• Virtually from your computer
• Submitting a pre-recorded video responding to questions we supply

Take the Standardized Test

Standardized testing is required for all applicants. Test fee waivers for the SSAT and ISEE are available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning each year in September.

Students should refer to the testing description by grade below:

School Codes: SAT and ISEE 300185; SSAT 5764; TOEFL 8128; ACT 8174

For applicants to grade 9:

• Upper Level of the SSAT or ISEE is required.
• Results must be from tests taken no earlier than one year prior to the application deadline of January 15.
• Results must be sent directly to Exeter from the testing company. We will not accept test scores sent by an applicant.

For applicants to grade 10:

• ONE of the following tests is required: SSAT, ISEE, PSAT (NSMQT), SAT, PreACT, or ACT.
• Results must be from tests taken no earlier than one year prior to the application deadline of January 15.
• SSAT and ISEE results must be sent directly to Exeter from the testing company. We will not accept test scores sent by an applicant.
• PSAT (NMSQT), SAT, PreACT, or ACT may be emailed to admit@exeter.edu or uploaded to the Exeter Applicant Portal, or you may have your scores sent to us directly from the test company.

For applicants to grade 11:

• ONE of the following tests is required: SSAT, ISEE, PSAT (NSMQT), SAT, PreACT, or ACT
• Results may be from any testing date.
• SSAT and ISEE results must be sent directly to Exeter from the testing company. We will not accept test scores sent by an applicant.
• PSAT (NMSQT), SAT, PreACT, or ACT may be emailed to admit@exeter.edu or uploaded to the Exeter Applicant Portal, or you may have your scores sent to us directly from the test company.

Grade 12 and Postgraduate applicants:

• ONE of the following tests is required: PSAT (NMSQT), SAT, PreACT or ACT.
• Results may be from any testing date.
• Results may be sent as part of the official school transcript or an official PDF of the score report can be emailed to admit@exeter.edu or uploaded to the Exeter Applicant Portal, or you may have your scores sent to us directly from the test company.

English Proficiency Tests: While we strongly recommend the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test for students who do not speak English as a primary language and haven’t been in an English-speaking school for the last two years, it is not a requirement of the application.

Test scores can be emailed to admit@exeter.edu or uploaded to the Exeter Applicant Portal or you may have your test scores sent to us from the test company.

Recommendations and Transcripts

You will request recommendations and transcripts through Gateway to Prep Schools. Note that this part of the application opens in October. Your school and your recommenders will receive an email from Gateway on your behalf with a link through which to send their materials.

• Principal/Counselor Recommendation: Ask for a recommendation from your current principal or guidance counselor and enter a contact email into Gateway.
• English and Math Recommendations: Ask for a recommendation from your current English and Math teacher and enter their contact email into Gateway.
• Personal Recommendation: Ask an adult (for example, an employer, a mentor or a family friend) to write on behalf of your character and community impact.
• Special Interest Recommendation (optional): Ask an adult (for example, an instructor or a coach) to write about particular interests or abilities which demonstrate your passion and commitment.
• Transcripts: Current and previous year transcripts (grade reports) must be sent directly from your school(s) (or a licensed translator) in English. Character Skills Snapshot (optional)

Exeter will accept SSATB’s Character Skills Snapshot, though it is not required. This assessment can help our admissions team understand the unique values that students will contribute to the Exeter community. Learn more about the CSA. This assessment can be uploaded through your Exeter Applicant Portal or emailed to us at admit@exeter.edu.
