Front Street dormitory named for alumnus and longtime Exeter supporter.
Front Street Dorm is now Guptill House, a fitting tribute to a lifetime of support for the Academy from a generous alumnus.
George H. Guptill ’57 has a long history of philanthropy to Exeter, including support for students from his native Raymond, New Hampshire, to attend the Exeter Summer academic enrichment program and the significant donations to the Academy Music Department of his 1927 Model M Steinway piano and a commissioned Taylor and Boody Continuo pipe organ. Guptill has given annually to the Academy since his graduation.
Guptill, who today lives in Exeter, knows support for buildings and infrastructure is an institutional priority, and he relishes the opportunity for a former day student’s name to adorn one of the Academy’s dorms. The 150-year-old mansard-style mansion on Front Street, purchased by the Academy in 1969, is home to two dozen boarding students and six to eight day student affiliates each year.
