Retiring faculty leave a lasting legacy

Nine instructors depart with over 300 years of collective experience at Exeter.
Nine esteemed members of the Academy faculty who collectively have provided more than three centuries of service to Exeter are retiring this spring. Their impact is immeasurable.
As we get ready to bid farewell to this all-star roster of instructors and contemplate just how to fill the void they leave, Dean of Faculty Meg Foley captures the contributions and influence of her longtime colleagues:
“Walking in the woods with binoculars in hand, hitting balls on the tennis court, chatting excitedly about local politics over coffee outside of Grill, strumming guitar with friends and colleagues, listening to presidential candidates who came through Exeter, cheering on Exeter athletes, storytelling over meals with students… . These are some of the vignettes that come to mind when I think of this incredible group of teachers and colleagues who are retiring this year.

“Certainly, their impacts have been felt in their classrooms, offices, on their teams, on the Global Initiatives trips — over 300 years of collective experience at Exeter! How many advisees have they had? How many students have they taught and coached?
“While the numbers might be high, and indicative of their impact, this group stands out to me because they are deeply embedded in the fabric of our lives at the Academy and known by their accumulated smaller moments. This is a group who makes this place more connected. They linger over lunch in the dining hall, or on the sidelines of a game, always making whomever they are with feel like they are worth some extra time and conversation. They will be sorely missed and the rest of us will have to take up the baton in creating more moments of connection in their honor.”
Please help us wish them well.
