Art Around Exeter: Neighborhood Block Prints

(This program is only open to current PEA students and employees.)

Art Around Exeter is a quick art making encounter on the campus paths. It’s an opportunity for you to get outside for a quick walk, make a 5 minute detour before you head to the gym, or grab a friend or coworker for a “field trip”.

For this Art Around Exeter, experiment with printing and stamping while creating miniature, house and neighborhood prints. Inspired by our current exhibition, Home Sweet, Somewhere, we’ll have a variety of pre-cut house-themed lino blocks that you can stamp and layer to create multiple designs. 

Remember: We’ll be located outdoors on the Patio outside of Grill, not in the Lamont Gallery, like most of our workshops.

Looking to add a little green to your space? Stop by the Lamont Gallery to plant your own succulent and give it a home that’s uniquely yours! Personalize your plant vessel with colorful cut vinyl shapes, then take home a custom creation that’s perfect for your dorm, office, or favorite sunny spot. While working on your planter, take some time to explore our current exhibition Home Sweet, Somewhere.

All materials provided but supplies are offered on a first come, first serve basis. One succulent per person, please.

Lunch and Learn with Elizabeth Alexander and Eben Haines

Lunch and Learn is a collaborative, casual talk with exhibiting artists Elizabeth Alexander and Eben Haines. Both artists have created site-specific installations in the Lamont Gallery, and during this program you can grab a bite to eat and learn more about their art-making processes as we collectively explore the spaces they created for Home Sweet, Somewhere.

Elizabeth Alexander is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in sculptures and installations made from deconstructed domestic materials. She has degrees in sculpture from the Cranbrook Academy, MFA, and Massachusetts College of Art, BFA, and is an Associate Professor and Sculpture Department Coordinator at Montserrat College of Art.

Eben Haines creates spaces that feel uncanny and out of place, allowing viewers a chance to stop and investigate their own positions within our various systems, and engage in more empathetic and community focused ways of seeing the world. Haines earned his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and currently lives and works in Boston.

This event is free and open to all with lunch provided but space is limited.

Paper Places

Lamont Gallery Classroom

Build and decorate your own 3D paper house! Collage is an accessible art practice for experimenting with imagery and texture, while exploring meaning making and memories. Get inspired by the multi-layered collaged buildings and quirky house sculptures created by artist Seth Clark on view now in Home Sweet, Somewhere. 

We have a variety of house templates and papers for you to choose from, construct, and personalize. You’ll learn some collage techniques and get the opportunity to experiment with materials. You are invited to use your house as an opportunity to create a visualization of all the things that make home, home. You’re welcome to bring personal items that you would like to include in your finished piece. Bring your friends and create a neighborhood of personal collaged dwellings.

Neighborhood Block Prints

Build a tiny world, one print at a time! Create charming house and neighborhood prints using a variety of pre-cut lino blocks. Mix, match, layer, and repeat to design unique prints on journals, notecards, heavyweight paper, and fabric pouches. Feeling adventurous? Dive into mixed-media techniques with a variety of additional materials and discover even more creative possibilities. Whether you’re a first-time printer or a seasoned maker, there’s plenty of room to experiment with and make something uniquely your own.

Exeter Fall Arts Tour
Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8, 10-4

Mark your calendars for two incredible days of art and culture in Exeter. Fifteen local galleries, artist studios, and shops will open their doors for this weekend event. Lamont Gallery will be open both days with special hours on Sunday and no reservations are necessary this weekend.

With a spotlight on fine art and fine craft, you can see Exeter’s vibrant local galleries, studio collectives, and individual artist studios. Pick up a self-guided Exeter Fall Art Tour map at any of the locations on the tour.

Hallspace Gallery

What makes a space into a home? Home can mean different things to different people, whether a traditional dwelling you live in with your family or a place where you feel safe, sheltered, and seen.

Our current exhibition, Home Sweet, Somewhere, is a contemporary exploration of the spaces we call home. Though “home” is personal, carrying a unique meaning for each individual, the emotional bonds we form with our surroundings are a shared aspect of the human experience.  

Color, doodle, and decorate our collection of home-inspired shapes in Hallspace Gallery. We welcome you to stop by and use this space to explore the meaning of home as it relates to you.

Make Yourself at Home
September 8 – November 21, 2026

As an extension of the Home Sweet, Somewhere exhibition, the Lamont Gallery classroom is stocked with coloring pages inspired by the exhibition, as well as a variety of art supplies and materials you can use whenever you need an art break.

Inspired by the many ideas of “home” explored in the exhibition, we welcome you to the gallery classroom to help bring a collection of paper houses to life. These 2D dollhouse-style spaces are waiting for your creative touch. Design and create miniature furniture and décor, then arrange the rooms however you like. Rearrange the spaces again and again to match your mood – it’s all the fun of interior design without the heavy lifting!

All are welcome!

Beaded Belonging

Make a custom necklace, bracelet, or key chain using beads and silver house charms. These materials will be available the rest of fall term in the Lamont Gallery classroom along with other art-making materials, craft supplies, and house-themed items inspired by our current exhibition Home Sweet, Somewhere.
