Maxine Park
To hear to Maxine Park ’22 play the piano is an engaging listening experience, but to see her perform takes that experience to a whole new level. The laser focus with which the Hanover, New Hampshire, native attacks each piece is evident within the first few notes as her hands dance up and down the keys at what looks like an impossible pace.
As a lifelong pianist, Park brought her passion for music to Exeter, where she says the instructors, facilities and fellow student musicians have supported her pursuit to take her playing to new heights. The daughter of Andrew Park ’93, the senior had always been aware of Exeter, but a visit to campus four years ago helped her to picture herself as a student at the Academy. On that tour, Park was blown away by The Bowld performance space, but it was her time sitting in on a physics class, where she noted how engaged the students were with the material, that had her thinking Exeter was the right fit for her.
“The thing about Exeter is that you’re around a lot of very passionate people, and that has been really inspiring in figuring out what am I passionate about outside of music,” she says. “The Harkness discussions really opened my mind to different subjects … and it made me really fall in love with different areas.”
