Here is a sampling of funds to support diversity, equity and inclusion at Phillips Exeter Academy.
The Dr. Kurt V. Lang ’81 Scholarship Fund
Named in honor of Dr. Lang, a permanent endowment to support need-based scholarships with a preference for minority students in their upper or senior year who have exhibited a strong interest in science.
John and Elizabeth Phillips Fellowship Fund
An endowment fund to bring to campus scholars and teachers from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in independent secondary boarding schools.
William H. Bolden Scholarship Fund
An endowed financial aid fund in honor of William H. Bolden, the first Black faculty member, who was appointed in 1969, to support students from inner-city public or parochial schools.
Rick and Linda Mahoney Youth from Every Quarter Fund
Named in honor of longtime Director of Financial Aid Rick Mahoney ’61, a permanent endowment used to assist scholarship students and their families in areas where they do not have the financial resources to take full advantage of the opportunities offered to students attending PEA.
Rex A. McGuinn Memorial Book Fund
Named in memory of longtime English Instructor Rex McGuinn, a permanent endowment to support the purchase of classroom books for students with demonstrated financial need.
Stephen G. Kurtz Minority Aid Fund
Named in honor of the 11th principal of Phillips Exeter, a permanent endowment to support financial aid for students of color.
Dewitt Fischman Native American Scholarship Fund
A permanent endowment fund to provide financial aid for Native American students during the regular session, or secondarily, to provide support for any underprivileged students to attend Exeter Summer.
The Eddie Perry ’85 Fund
Started by his classmates in memory of Eddie, a permanent endowment to provide non-tuition assistance to low-income students of color while they are on campus, which may include anything from purchasing winter coats and eyeglasses to bringing parents to campus to visit their students.
Intercultural Experience Fund
A current-use fund to be used at the discretion of the dean of multicultural affairs and director of equity and inclusion to support intercultural programming and training for students, faculty and staff.
Equitable Experience Fund
A current-use fund to provide non-tuition assistance to financial aid students to ensure that they have their needs met while on campus and can participate fully in opportunities offered by the school.
Principal’s Discretionary Fund for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
A current-use fund to be used at the discretion of the principal to support any DEI initiative and to support students at the Academy who are on financial aid.
The James A. Snead ’71 Memorial Prize
Named in memory of James A. Snead, to be awarded to a student or students who have written effectively on multicultural themes, who have contributed to the evolution of non-racist culture in the community, or who have exemplified a passion for the humanities that promises to be lifelong.
