Dimitar Petkov

Biography

Mr. Petkov, a Bulgarian violist, has performed in recitals and chamber music appearances in Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the United States. He received a B.M. and an M.M. from the State Music Academy (Bulgaria). Mr. Petkov has served as principal viola of the Southwest Florida Philharmonic, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Spoleto, Italy, the Newton Symphony Orchestra, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kalistos Chamber Orchestra.

Mr. Petkov was a second-prize winner in the Svetoslav Obretenov-Bulgarian National Music Competition, a first-prize winner in the Mozart-Chamber Music Competition (Bulgaria) and a winner of the Longy School of Music Concerto Competition. In 2002, he graduated from Longy School of Music with an Artist Diploma.

Currently, Mr. Petkov performs with Boston Modern Orchestra Project and serves as principal viola of the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra in Massachusetts. Mr. Petkov teaches violin and viola at Phillips Exeter Academy, as well as maintaining private studios in Arlington and Westford. He also teaches violin, viola and chamber music at New England Conservatory Prep and Music on the Hill Summer Camp. In addition, Mr. Petkov is the Music Director of Westford Chamber Players, a nonprofit organization established to promote music education while serving the community. Mr. Petkov lives with his wife, Krasi, and their two children, Emma and Martin.
