Jack Pimental '18 (27) is mobbed by his teammates after scoring the game winning goal over Andover with just four seconds left.

The 2017-18 athletics season came to a close on Saturday with the third rendition of Exeter/Andover Weekend of the school year. Blue skies and warm weather smiled on the competition between the two schools.

Close games are always the norm when it comes to E/A, but boys lacrosse brought that to a new level. After falling behind 7-1 early, Big Red stormed all the way back to top the Blue 9-8. After a defensive stop in their own end with just 12 seconds remaining in a tie game, Exeter scurried downfield before Jack Pimental ’18 potted the game-winner with just four seconds left on the clock, sending the Exeter fans into a huge eruption. The win marks the third consecutive year Big Red has knocked off the Blue in the final game of the season.

The boys team was not the only one to mount a big comeback on the day as the girls JV team fell behind 7-0, before kicking into high gear on the way to an 11-9 victory. The boys JV also carried out a win, topping the Blue 11-7.

Girls lacrosse almost had a comeback for the ages as well, as it kicked off E/A Weekend on Friday night. Trailing by an 8-5 deficit, Big Red was able to even the score at 8-8 late in the second half. Andover was able to recover, however, scoring the go-ahead goal with just over one minute to play. Exeter gained possession and sprinted into the offensive zone with only ten seconds remaining, but were unable to tie the game.

Boys volleyball capped their undefeated season on Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Blue. After a tight opening set, 25-23, Big Red gained control and cruised to the sweep with set scores of 25-16 and 25-17.

Boys JV baseball found themselves on the losing end of a back-and-forth affair, falling 11-8 while the Andover varsity baseball squad pulled away in the seventh inning for a 15-2 win over Exeter. On the softball diamond, Exeter fell to Andover as the Blue was able to walk-off in the bottom of the seventh winning to claim an 8-7 victory.

On the track, the boys ousted their hosts while the girls fell in a close matchup. Official results will be posted when they are made available.

NEIRA

Outside of E/A, the Exeter boys and girls crew teams enjoyed a wonderful day at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts as both the boys and girls claimed overall team titles. The boys team earned 31 overall points, edging Kent by two, while the girls earned 35 points, two more than Andover to claim their title.

The boys first boat and third boat finished third in their respective grand final races, while the boys second boat finished second in a tightly contested grand final. On the girls side, the second boat blew away their competition, finishing ten seconds faster than the second-place boat to earn a first place finish. The third boat claimed a first-place finish and the first boat crossed the finish in fourth place in their grand final race.
