Biography
Mr. Squires is widely known as the former lead guitarist for the rock band Beatlejuice, owns two distinctly different musical personae. While attending UMass Lowell from 1974 to 1981, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance, he was a classical guitar performance major and won two silver medals in prestigious international competitions. Guitar ’78 and Guitar ’81 in Toronto brought him instant recognition as well as his appointment as an instructor at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he has taught since 1979. His students have won Grammy Awards and collaborated with Bob Dylan. He initiated the ongoing Exeter Association of Rock at the Academy some 30 years ago.
Mr. Squires performed with Beatlejuice who are mainly localized in the Boston area and along the East Coast, but as a solo concert artist he has performed in South America and Canada as well as the United States. He has performed frequently for the Boston Classical Guitar Society and at venues in the Boston area including the Hammond Castle Museum, the Beauport Museum and the Cape Ann Historical Museum.
