MAT590: Mathematical Physics

This course will introduce many of the key concepts used in classical mathematical physics.

This course will introduce many of the key concepts used in classical mathematical physics. Students will explore first and second order differential equations associated with mechanics, gravitation, wave motion and heat diffusion. Frobenius power series solutions for linear second order equations will be used to solve these equations and several classes of special functions will be explored. Students will also study Tensors in their algebraic form and look at some of their applications in mechanics and in special relativity.
