Coronavirus Response

Information and updates about the coronavirus.

Students walking into the Lamont Health Center

We are watching carefully for changes in the coronavirus outbreak, and Academy leadership is conferring daily to discuss whether developments necessitate a change in plans related to visitors on campus, student group travel off campus and vacation travel. As we need to make changes to any of these categories, we will post that here and on our parent portal.

Leadership teams are continuously monitoring information provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for guidance, and will be in touch with state and local health departments as needed.

Coronaviruses are a common family of viruses and one of the most frequent causes of the common cold but also are rarely associated with more severe illnesses such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Like with all respiratory viruses, prevention is key. We continue to encourage common sense precautions such as frequently washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and using a tissue or elbow when coughing and sneezing.

We are helping employees stay up-to-date with travel advisories and are asking that they discuss plans for business and non-business related travel plans to higher risk areas with their supervisors so that we can avoid complications related to travel restrictions.

Since the outbreak began we have done the following:

Feb. 24 — Canceled Classical Languages Department and Music Department spring break trips to Italy.

Jan. 29 — Requested that all families review travel plans for the March break and focus on contingency options in the event that travel from and to Exeter is made more difficult by health concerns.

Jan. 28 — Canceled spring break trip to China.

Jan. 24 — Requested that any students who have traveled from Wuhan City, China or have been in close contact with someone who has AND are exhibiting a fever and/or respiratory symptoms contact the on-campus health center.
