Both the boys and girls Exeter crew teams will wrap up their season this Saturday when they travel to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts for the annual New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships. Both teams have put together a strong year and will go up against stiff competition on the 1500m course on Saturday.

“The season has been exciting so far,” said girls head coach Sally Morris. “The camaraderie on the team is excellent with good cheer and smiles every day. Each day has provided another opportunity for growth and the team is developing well.”

The girls first boat has enjoyed some big wins over Hingham, Boston Latin, Shrewsbury and Hanover this season and is seeded fifth heading into the Championship Regatta. The second boat has earned the fourth seed after kicking off the season with three straight victories. The third boat, undefeated this season, has drawn the top seed.

Last season, the girls two and three boats took home first-place finishes while boat one earned a second-place finish.

The boys first boat will serve as the eighth seed in a talented and crowded crop of teams that are just seconds apart.

“The boys have worked hard to prepare for NEIRA,” said boys head coach Albert Leger. “The first boat has faced challenging competition all year and hopes to better its seed and make it to the Grand Final in the afternoon. The top ten crews are separated by only a few seconds, so a lot can happen.”

The second boat has had only one setback this spring at St. Paul’s on April 29th and is fixed to compete as the second seed while a young crew in the third boat has earned the sixth seed.

Last year was also successful for the boys as the third boat earned a first-place finish and the second boat grabbed a second-place finish.

The qualifying heats will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning with alternating girls and boys races. The top six seeds will then qualify for the Grand Finals at 2:25 p.m.
