Phillips Exeter Partners With Climate Counts to Host No Impact Man Sustainability Documentary

Phelps Academy Center, Forum
Exeter, NH (September 29, 2009)—In its continuing efforts to promote and learn about sustainability, Phillips Exeter Academy will host an evening forum and film viewing with sponsor and co-host Climate Counts—a New Hampshire nonprofit—to bring author and documentary subject, Colin Beavan, to Exeter. On Wednesday, October 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Beavan will offer a brief reading and book signing at the Water Street Bookstore located at 125 Water Street; and a film viewing from 7:45-9:30 p.m. in the Forum of Phillips Exeter’s Phelps Academy Center, on Tan Lane.
No Impact Man, and its originating book, No Impact Man: The Adventures of a Guilty Liberal Who Attempts to Save the Planet, and the Discoveries He Makes About Himself and Our Way of Life in the Process, encourages its audiences to join a movement and “empower citizens to make choices that better their lives and lower their environmental impact through lifestyle change, community action, and participation in environmental politics.” Beavan will introduce the film and be available for questions and discussion afterward. Both events are free and open to the public.
“We are thrilled to have Colin Beavan and the No Impact Man film and discussion come to Exeter. This is a great educational opportunity,” says Phillips Exeter’s Sustainability Education Coordinator Jennifer Wilhelm. “In keeping with the theme of his work, I hope that people will walk or bike to the event and car pool if no-energy transportation is not an option.”
Launched with support from organics pioneer Stonyfield Farm, Climate Counts brings consumers and companies together in the fight against global climate change. CC’s Executive Director Wood Turner sees No Impact Man as a model for others to follow, “Beavan’s work and his experience have inspired so many and shed light on questions many have been asking themselves: ‘Can environmental impact be reduced while enriching one’s life? Can individuals and families really make a difference on global climate change? Do consumer choices really matter?’ At Climate Counts, we’ve also worked hard to offer answers to these questions, and No Impact Man adds a whole new dimension to this growing conversation.”
