Patricia J. Babecki

Instructor in Mathematics

B.Sc., M.Sc.
McGill University

University of Massachusetts - Amherst

The road to Exeter was a circuitous one for Ms. Babecki. Born in Montreal, she grew up in La Belle Province and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics at McGill University before moving to New England. It was not until much later, after jobs in banking and software engineering and management in the early days of desktop computing, that she returned to school for a master's degree in education and found her way to Exeter in 1993 — a wonderful place to build a second career.

A member of the Mathematics Department, Ms. Babecki has lived in both Amen Hall and Kirtland House and was a dorm affiliate in Moulton House, Dow House and Merrill Hall. She coached several sports at the club level and served on various committees, but probably her most challenging — and rewarding —extracurricular activity was a five-year stint as adviser to the yearbook staff (the PEAN). After six years as the Academy's academic scheduler, followed by one year teaching mathematics at SYA France in beautiful Bretagne, Ms. Babecki is now back in the classroom, where she is happiest.

After being bitten by the hiking bug at Les Gorges du Verdon (also known as France's Grand Canyon), Ms. Babecki and her husband have spent many weekend days in the White Mountains or planning their next hiking vacation in our own national parks. Closer to home, Ms. Babecki enjoys running, walking and gardening. She is always in the midst of a good book, and is happiest when she's organizing her next trip to California, where her daughter moved for college and veterinary school after graduating from PEA in 2006.
