Mr. Hoven joined the College Counseling Office from the Casady School in Oklahoma City, where he was the associate director of college counseling. His other responsibilities at Casady included teaching English and serving as head coach of the boys and girls tennis programs. Mr. Hoven began his career in college counseling at the Darlington School, a coeducational boarding school in Rome, Georgia.

Mr. Hoven is a graduate of the College of Charleston, in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was a member of the NCAA Division I tennis program. He holds a master's degree from Middlebury College, and he conducted an extensive study of the poetry of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge at Oxford University’s Lincoln College.

Interested in national college counseling issues, Mr. Hoven is involved with ACCIS, the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools, and NACAC, the National Association for College Admission Counseling. He has presented sessions on the college writing process at the Great Plains Association for College Admissions Counseling.

Mr. Hoven’s family includes his wife, Abby, their three children, George, Amelia and Porter, and their two dogs, Roger and Buster. They live off campus and can be found enjoying many outdoor activities in the Seacoast region.
