HIS410: U.S. History Colonial Origins to 1861

Introduces you to the formation of American values and institutions from the early English settlements of North America through the Revolution and Civil War.

This course introduces students to the formation of American values and institutions from the early English settlements of North America through the Revolution and Civil War. Emphasis is given to the cultural, economic and social diversity of early America, the tension between local and central authority during the struggle for independence, the establishment of the Constitution, economic and social change in the young republic, slavery, and the growing sectional conflict that culminated in secession. Students will complete a library research project.
