Training runs develop the stamina and speed necessary to race the 5K distance. Beginners are welcome to join the team; the workload is adjusted to suit each runner's ability.

Competition against traditional rivals culminates in the New England championship meet. Individuals may also compete in a wider context, as in the Foot Locker and Junior Olympic regional championships.
